A little over 25 years after their flight from Iraq, Kurdwin Ayub accompanies her father Omar on a journey to his former homeland, Kurdistan. He wants to buy an apartment in Hewler – the Kurdish name for Erbil – and rediscover his former “paradise”. Between relatives, estate agents and a trip to the front line against Islamic State, however, his idealised image of home increasingly begins to falter. With humour, Ayub’s camera seeks compromises between her own questions and his unwavering convictions.
