Arzela, a Kurdish journalist and filmmaker, documents the struggle of the people of Amed – the Kurdish name for Diyarbakır – for their rights and for democracy. In the run-up to the 2024 elections, political events intensify, leading Arzela back to her own past and the history of her city. Elif Yiğit’s film traces the siege of the Sur district in 2016 and the local elections in 2024. It pays tribute to all those who, out of love for their homeland and culture, persistently resist oppression by the Turkish government with courage and optimism.
