Akam is a young literature teacher leading a quiet life in Oslo until his estranged uncle from Kurdistan arrives for an unexpected visit. Although Akam lives in a cramped shared flat, he takes his uncle in for a short stay. But his uncle has no intention of leaving. Caught between family obligations and mounting tension, Akam discovers that there is more to his uncle’s visit than meets the eye.
With plenty of humour, My Uncle Jens explores the friction between family members and between people of different generations and cultures. Beyond its entertainment value, however, the film also reflects the harshness of migration policy and its impact on the lived realities of Kurdish families in Europe.
