Still from Kî me Ez?

Kî me Ez? (Who am I?) recounts the life of Cegerxwîn, one of the most significant voices in Kurdish literature. Growing up under difficult circumstances in the village of Hesar during the Ottoman era, his life after the loss of his parents is shaped by poverty and displacement. These experiences become the foundation of his poetry and lifelong commitment. Archival footage, historical documents and photographs are interwoven with his family’s personal memories and contributions from artists, bearing witness to his influence.

Esin Akgül’s documentary sheds light on a formative period in Kurdish literature and portrays Cegerxwîn as a poet, thinker and important figure who embodies the social and cultural memory of his time.
